Purchased a Pre-Existing Home? Four Professionals You Need to Call

If you've recently purchased a pre-existing home, you're probably busy getting everything situated just right. While you're taking care of the decorating and the landscaping, there may be some details you're overlooking—especially if you didn't insist on an inspection before you bought your home. Now that you're in your home, here are four professionals you should call right away.

Locksmith

When it comes to purchasing a pre-existing home, the first thing you should do is call a residential locksmith service. You're going to need to have the locks changed on all your entry doors. You never know how many people have keys to your home. Since you can't round up every single one of them, the best thing you can do for your security is have the locks changed. If you have a security system on your new home, your locksmith will also help you update the passcodes so that your security system is secure as well.

Plumber

Now that you're in your home, you'll need to schedule an appointment with a plumber. You have no way of knowing how long it's been since the drains were cleaned or the plumbing fixtures were replaced. A plumber will come out and clean the drains to remove years of buildup that could lead to clogs. They'll also replace those outdated fixtures and make sure that you don't have any leaky pipes that need to be addressed. With winter just around the corner, now is a good time to have a plumber insulate all your exposed water pipes. You don't want to deal with ruptured pipes this winter.

Electrician

If you purchased an older home, you need to have the electrical wiring inspected, especially if you have things like home entertainment systems and other high-tech electronic gadgets that you plan on using in your home. The existing wiring in your older home may not be sufficient to endure the power that will be needed to run those high-tech gadgets. You don't want to have an electrical fire in your new home.

Roofer

If you didn't have your home inspected before you purchased it, you need to have a roofing contractor come out and take a look at your roof. You could have problems up there that you don't know about. If your roof is hiding damage, you may end up with leaks this winter, especially if you don't have the issues addressed soon enough.

Don't take chances with your pre-existing home. Make sure you have your locks changed and your home inspected for potential problems.
